The Security and Accountability For Every Port Act of 2006 contained an article that has changed the online gaming landscape in the United States. Title VIII of this bill is the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA. This bill prohibits all transfers of funds from financial institutions to online gambling sites. After this act was passed many online poker sites were forced to pull out of the US market as to not risk backlash from the acts passing. Several sites to this day continue with business as usual and have introduced several new ways of getting funds online. Several sites are still available to US customers and don’t show any signs of quitting. What does the future bring for the UIGEA and online poker?
